Meet Your Counselors

Meet School Counselor - Julie Grant  Julie G.png

I became a counselor because I am passionate about helping students reach their goals and fulfill their dreams.  I have worked in the education field for over 18 years; I have been a high school English teacher, a counseling supervisor, and now your El Dorado Middle School counselor.  I have a Masters in education and I also received my Masters in School Counseling from St. John’s University.   I am a current member of ASCA (American School Counseling Association) and continue to participate in school and district wide professional development opportunities.  I approach counseling from a behaviorist perspective and feel that identifying and addressing the behaviors that are impeding student learning can have a positive impact on a student’s overall academic performance.

This school year the counseling department is working on fostering a strong school culture, promoting anti-bullying, collaborating with teachers to offer in-class lessons and support, educating students about college and career options, and connecting students and parents with additional community resources.

I look forward to working with you and your child to ensure their success at El Dorado Middle school and beyond.

Meet School Counselor - Mrs. Kari Finch

Supporting students is my passion!   Providing students with the social-emotional tools necessary to be successful, both academically y and socially, is my favorite part of the job.  I love empowering students to discover their strengths and reach their goals.

My training includes a M.S.W. degree with a P.P.S. credential, focusing on school social work.  Most recently, I was working as the WorkAbility Coordinator at Albany Unified, providing transition/career counseling and services to high school students.  Before that, I worked for a nonprofit providing counseling to adolescents enrolled in the Juvenile Court and Community School District.
I am thrilled to be part of the El Dorado Middle School community; we are fortunate to have such a dedicated and caring team.  Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or concerns regarding your student’s school experience.  I look forward to getting to know you and your children and building a strong family/school partnership!
